“UNIVERSALLY, WOMEN WITH PERSONALITIES ARE HATED” – Billie Eilish

It’s 1994 and powerhouse record label managers, Craig and Darren, have created the girl-band to end all girl-bands. They have been moulded, twisted, and worked to become the girls that everyone wants. The Sensation Girls. Problem is, The Sensation Girls don’t know who they are anymore.

When unofficial leader DeeDee unexpectedly quits, things begin to unravel. The girls are getting older and bolder and they know what they want, what they really, really want.

After having it's world premiere in 2023, Katy Warner's GIRL BAND is back, bringing together an entire team of local female artists to tell what Limelight described as "an important play that highlights how far the entertainment industry has to go"

Sydney Morning Herald called it "Electrifying!" "Smart, fresh, funny and moving" and Grace Mitchell's review claimed that "Girl Band powerfully challenges the exploitation of women in this industry and amplifies female empowerment.”

Written by award winning Playwright and Young Adult Novelist, Katy Warner; a graduate of VCA, receiving a Master of Writing for Performance in 2012, Her plays have been performed across Australia, London and New Zealand and have received recognition with an AWGIE for Best Children’s Play, the Melbourne Fringe Award for Best Emerging Writer and nominations for the Victorian Green Room award for new writing, the Martin Lysicrates Prize and Lysicrates Prize, and Griffin Award. Warner here has created "six characters of terrific depth that weave their way through the familiar tropes of teen pop stardom"

Get ready for dancing, Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes inspired rap, low-rise jeans, and a hell of a lot of mess.

Directed by Guest Director, Caitlyn Cutler, fresh off Assitant Director roles with ANU Musical Theatre Collective in Canberra (Little Women), Caitlyn is stoked to have the opportunity to take the reins of this empowering female led show and work, not only with her Mum (As her AD) but also the local talent to create a toe tapping, punk inspired, satire of the Pop Music Industry in the 90's.
